Your Host… Liz Gabert

Liz has worked as a Conservative Radio Show Host in New Hampshire for several years. Over the past year, Liz decided to make some serious changes in her life. She altered her life dramatically, both personally and professionally.

Why? Because she grew up in West Texas as a Jew, with very minimal Jewish family involvement. Liz recognized her Jewish roots and she and her husband raised their 3 kids so that they would understand their own background.

And then came October 7th! Liz was so upset, so shocked, so disturbed at the evil, barbarity and savagery of the massacre that she was ‘literally paralyzed’ by it all and could think of nothing else. Her first thoughts were why? Why always the Jews and why always Israel? That, and other events in her life, inspired Liz’s mission to finally learn and understand what being Jewish really means!

Ever since October 7th, Liz has been on what she calls, an astonishingly exciting Jewish “Learning Journey”. Liz sought out and connected with local, regional, national and international experts and neighbors to help her comprehend recent news, as well as the legacy of Judaism. These include religious leaders, educators, both Jews and Gentiles, to help her integrate that massive history and broaden her awareness and perspective.

Liz will host ‘A Journey to Milk and Honey’ to share and encourage others of all faiths, to follow along with her discoveries… and uncover their own new perspectives along the way.

Her Own Story… Liz Gabert

Liz is a Jewish woman born and raised by two Jewish parents in the Baptist Bible Belt of West Texas, living all of her life with very minimal Jewish involvement. None of her siblings, nor she, married Jewish spouses.

Despite knowing next to nothing about her faith or heritage, Liz always felt she was a Jew and tried her best to raise her 3 children Jewish from home so that they too would know that they were Jewish. Liz and her husband, who moved frequently during their 35 years of marriage, raised their children Internationally, but were never involved in any of the Jewish communities.

Three years ago, however, Liz and her husband exchanged Hanukkah/Christmas DNA tests; her husband, as she said, got ‘mutt’ results composed of many different nationalities. However, to her surprise Liz turned out to be ‘a purebred’ as a 99.6% Ashkenazi Jew. This surprised her and got her thinking more about what it means to be Jewish.

And then came October 7th! Liz was so upset, so shocked, so disturbed at the evil, barbarity and savagery of the massacre that she was ‘literally paralyzed’ by it all and could think of nothing else. Her first thoughts were why? Why always the Jews and why always Israel? Five weeks later she attended the enormous Pro Israel Rally in Washington D.C. which helped her begin to understand the strength, resilience, and pride of the Jewish people.

It was then, with the encouragement of a friend and the openness and welcoming from the local Chabad Community, that set the stage for Liz’s mission to finally learn and understand what being Jewish really means! She began attending the Chabad Shabbat services every Saturday morning; Began learning with a ‘Partner in Torah’ on a weekly basis; Started attending a “Basics of Judaism’ weekly learning session with the Rabbi’s daughter using a children’s text book; Began attending every Chabad class and event possible, and even downloaded a language app to begin to learn Hebrew!!

So, ever since October 7th, Liz has been on what she calls, an astonishingly exciting Jewish “Learning Journey”. In addition, because she believes that millions of people ‘just like her’ were impacted by the sheer evil of October 7th, Liz hopes to share her Jewish learning journey with others, Jewish or not, who may be interested in learning and understanding more about Judaism, the Jewish people and the Jewish State of Israel from a basic and fresh perspective.

As a former Conservative Radio Show Host in New Hampshire for years, Liz has the confidence to tackle something new and will launch this new podcast, which she believes is her own little ‘mitzvah’ (in English, a commandment, but more typically a good deed – action, not wishes), to share her very exciting Jewish Learning Journey with others… so stay tuned!

What Liz’s Podcast Is About & Who It's For

As you’ll soon realize, Liz is a curious, intelligent, very personable and inquisitive person. Her radio background has given her a lot of experience probing guests for answers on a wide range of topics. In her Podcast Series, Liz will reach for answers from notable religious experts and (international) cultural and even political leaders.

Liz is excited about making her own life to be more complete, as she learns about the history of Judaism, it’s ups and downs over the centuries, it’s mystical and mysterious impact, it’s remarkable contributions to the world and the challenges it faces today. Liz is on a journey that anyone will relate to for one reason or another.

Who will be most curious about the Journey Liz will take? Those in Jewish circles keep telling her that it will be parents and grandparents, who want to remember and repeat the accomplishments and learnings from the past… especially for those adults who have moved away from the path in which they were raised. Their kids and grandchildren will say it’s them, to find a gentler way to integrate these principles in their own lives, as some are strictly taught.

Others have said that her listeners may likely reach into the non-Jewish communities, worldwide, to better understand what is happening in Israel now and why. So, students, teachers and parents… Jews and Gentiles, each will have their own reasons to follow Liz along on her journey. Even reporters and other podcasters may follow her discovery journey. It’s going to be meaningful and fun.

A Brief Timeline Of Our Series’ Likely Growth

Liz worked as a conservative radio ‘talk show’ host out of Manchester, New Hampshire for more than five years. While her audience primarily reached NH residents, she developed fans and loyal listeners across northern New England. If you read ‘Her Own Story’, you’ll learn about the events over the past year that shook her.

These deeply affected her outlook and changed how she looked at herself and the world. Over the past several months, Liz has assembled a team of experienced professionals, who respect and share her perspective and will help her reach her new, loyal audience. These people will discover, while following Liz, how foreign and domestic elections, international strife and much more can be changed by the smart, curious, intelligent guests that Liz will talk with over the months and years ahead.

Her listeners hunger to better understand about antisemitism, about Judaism and the scientists, musicians, visual artists, philosophers, religious leaders and even politicians that have the knowledge and experience to get us past the conflicts and into a more peaceful and productive future.
